The collection is organized in 4 boxes, as follows: Box #1 contains advertising materials, Articles of Partnership and Co-partnership, directory listings, factory descriptions, genealogical materials, land records, letterhead, manufacturers' catalogs, news clippings, photographs, slides, and other miscellaneous ephemera. Boxes #2 to #4 contain organ descriptions, as follows: #2 contains Opus 1 (1829) to 857 (1876); #3 contains Opus 858 (1876) to 2314 (1913); and #4 contains Opus 2315 (1913) to 2614 (1935). Some of the materials originated with Conrad O. Olson, once an employee of Hook & Hastings.

The firm E. & G.G. Hook, church organ builders, was founded in 1827 as a partnership between two brothers, Elias Hook and George G. Hook, of Salem, Massachusetts. In 1831, the firm relocated to Boston where they set up shop on Friend Street. By 1872, Francis H. Hastings had become a partner, and the corporate name was changed to E. & G.G. Hook & Hastings.
